Memory Assessments

People often wonder if the changes they are experiencing in their memory are simply normal or something more serious that needs to be investigated.

It is true to say that as part of the aging process most people experience some slowing in their thinking and memory. If, though, the changes become more significant and start to affect daily activities then an assessment is appropriate.

Some of the causes of memory problems

• Anxiety Stress and Depression
• Head injury
• Side effects of medication
• Vitamin deficiency
• Alcohol
• Drug abuse
• Dementia (e.g. Alzheimer’s Disease)
• Neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease or stroke

What can be done about memory problems?

As more and more research is done new advances with medication and other rehabilitative treatments are helping those people with memory problems to live longer fuller lives.

The most important thing is to detect the signs and act on them as early as possible. Lifestyle changes, possibly supplemented by appropriate medication, can give significant benefits.

We have a great deal of experience in assessing, diagnosing and treating people with memory problems and will be happy to arrange a memory assessment. Please contact our office for further information and to arrange an appointment.
